Our History
The first Wag-N-Wash® was opened in Colorado Springs, CO. by
partners Dan Remus and Jef Strauss in April, 1999. Their then
11-year-old Dalmatian, Geni, was an important and very much loved
part of their family. So much so, that Dan and Jef were probably
considered by some to be those "quirky" type of pet
owners that treat their animals like humans. Hmmm, imagine that.
So it only seemed natural when focus was being directed towards
starting a new business, it be one that catered to pets and the
people who love them. Fortunately for the business and the pets
who have come through the doors, there were many more "quirky" people
out there who love their pets as family members and Wag-N-Wash® quickly became a successful business and resource for the local
community.
What started as a small dog wash and bakery has today blossomed
into Wag N’ Wash® Healthy Pet Center, a full-line specialty
retail destination for cats and dogs. Wag N’ Wash® Healthy
Pet Centers are sought out by customers for their extensive line
of natural foods, in-house bakery, unique merchandise and unsurpassed
customer service. And of course, as over 95,000 dogs can
contest to, Wag N’ Wash® is still the place where dirty dogs can
come clean!

Who Are We Looking for in a Franchisee?
As we begin to grow our business through franchising, our focus
isn’t on opening as many stores as possible, but on finding
the right fit for our unique business and interested parties.
The successful franchisee candidate will be someone who has a
passion for pets, understands the connection between humans and
family pets, has retail and/or service industry experience, has
business management experience, is self motivated, outgoing and
fun! We are looking to partner with owner-operators, not just
investors. Franchisees can anticipate working in their store
up to 6 days a week, 10 hours a day. It’s a lot of work,
but a labor of love for the right person. Applicants are required
to have a net worth of $200,000 or more.
Where Are We Looking?
The ideal location for a Wag N’ Wash® Healthy Pet Center
is a metropolitan area with a population of 500,000 or more.
We are currently registered and/or able to pursue franchising
in all states except the following: IL and MD. If you are from one of these states, we would
be happy to note your interest and contact you when we are able
to solicit franchises in your state.
How Much Money Will it Take?
The estimated total investment to open a Wag N’ Wash® Healthy
Pet Center is $400,00 - $600,000. This amount varies widely
depending on store size and location. Local construction and
lease expenses will play a large roll in the total investment.
Though this may appear to be more than investing in other pet-related
franchises, keep in mind that our stores are 2-3 times larger
than a typical dog wash or pet boutique and we carry an extensive
retail inventory. Wag N’ Wash® store sizes range from approximately
4,000 - 6,000 sq. ft. The estimated total investment is for everything
you need to open a store including a one-time franchise fee of
$30,000, build out and construction expenses, capitol equipment,
store inventory, supplies, initial advertising and opening expenses.
What Fees do Franchisees Pay to the Franchisor?
You will pay an initial fee of $30,000 to purchase your franchise,
which is included in the estimated initial investment, and a
monthly service fee equal to 5% of gross sales. There are additional
expenses for advertising and promotions paid to the Franchisor
that are outlined in the franchise agreement.
What do You Get for Your Fees?
As a Franchisee, you get the rights to our trademarked name
and logo, our secret bakery recipes, preferred Wag N’ Wash® pricing
with certain vendors and manufacturers, and the use of our exclusive
operations manual that details how to successfully
operate a Wag N’ Wash® Healthy Pet Center. Most importantly,
you get the partnership and assistance of a highly experienced
and successful team of retail and business experts. We will be
there in the beginning to help you get your store off the ground,
give you the training you need to open and operate your store,
and to share the secrets that have made our stores the popular
successes that they are today. Most importantly, we will continue
to be your partner after your store opens to provide you with
ongoing support, training and industry innovations.
We have been down the road of a start-up business and have worked
out many of the obstacles and kinks that a new business experiences.
